Card Spotlight: Market

The Market is a social type buildings to build worth 2 points with a great ability. It’s worth an extra 2 points if you have 3 blue-bordered commerce buildings built by the end of the game. Commerce buildings are among the cheapest buildings in the game but it’s still a big commitment. In a typical game you will have 7-9 buildings at the end of the game, which means you have less room to branch into other strategies. However, those 2 points are worth it so the real question is what cards work best with it. Look for commerce buildings that give you back resources such as the Harbour or Treasury. Cheap 1 point commerce buildings also work if you build the Farm or the Courtyard. Then there’s the Bank if you’re really lucky. I’ll talk about those cards in future posts.

Fellipe did a fantastic job bringing the area to life with characters and buildings you might see on other cards. It’s one of the cards we really spent a lot of time making great.

Introducing Town Builder

Town Builder is a card game for 1-4 players that plays in 20-40 minutes. Noble families are in competition to build the most beautiful district in a Dutch-inspired town. The winner becomes the mayor. The goal of the game is to score the most ribbons (victory points) by constructing buildings, racing to achieve awards, and appealing to a panel of judges.

On your turn you choose and play two cards from a selection of five face-up cards called the Supply. You do not have a hand of cards. Each card can be used in two different ways: as a building or as a resource.

Start a Foundation by taking a card from the Supply and placing it sideways in front of you. Then start taking other cards as resources to put behind your Foundations. It might take several turns to gather the resources required. Once you have enough to build the foundation, you discard the resources and turn the card upright. Completed foundations are worth ribbons at the end of the game. Many buildings have abilities and finding synergies between them is key to winning the game. At the same time you should be looking for cards that your opponents’ need and use them as resources.
